Description:
The main role of the Senior Electrician is to support the Operations & Maintenance Manager in the safe execution of the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the HV and MV Electrical Substations and Overhead Lines
Daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections of key electrical LV, MV & HV plant and equipment as per operating and maintenance manuals/guidelines
Performing power transformer oil sampling and analysis
Breakdown and corrective maintenance on LV, MV & HV plant and equipment components
Interact with Eskom control from time to time
Interact with DRD Ergo plant from time to time
Raise work requests for onsite intervention
Report significant events to Operations & Maintenance Manager
Be responsible for following all cooperative safety policies and procedures
Create safe work procedures where required
Perform other work-related activities as requested by the Operations & Maintenance Manager
The role will require standby duties
Requirements:
Electrician or Millwright trade completed through a recognized training institution
Minimum 5 years’ utility experience in HV and MV substations with field maintenance is desired. Experience in the maintenance of overhead lines would be advantageous.
Qualified & Registered Installation Electrician for single and three-phase systems (Yellow card required). Qualified and Registered Master Installation Electrician would be advantageous
Experience in switching of LV, MV and HV systems is an advantage.
Understanding of power system protection systems
Experience with portable testing equipment
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word
and Excel
Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of LV and 11 & 22kV switchgear and cable systems including fault location and diagnostics
Cable jointing qualifications and experience is an advantage
SCADA systems: knowledge of/experience in SCADA is an advantage
Working knowledge of Solar PV plants is an advantage
A valid Code B driver’s license is a requirement
