Description:

This opportunity is with a long-standing representative body that represents a specific sector in the financial services industry. It is made up of a relatively small professional team of specialists.

Purpose of Role -

Responsible for key priority area of Corporate Affairs for this Representative Body by providing strategic leadership to their Management and professional team. This position is key in building a positive image and reputation for them, their members and their specific financial services sector in general. The position is responsible an accountable for all aspects of their corporate identity, brand value and positionin, overall image, stakeholder relations and communications, data collection, monitoring, and content creation. Also for screening the financial services environment and using the information to develop a Corporate Affairs strategy in keeping with the organisation's mandate as decided by their Board Members.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities-

1. Develop, manage, and implement the organisation’s Corporate Affairs Strategy.

2. Building Strategic Relations with the Representative Body’s members and other Stakeholders:

· Develop and implement the stakeholder strategy across the specific financial services sector’s value chain.

· Support their key strategic areas in conjunction with their Internal Exco.

· Identify opportunities to build the representative body and their financial services sector’s brand with new, emerging, and existing stakeholders.

· Build your own relationships with key stakeholders and build a profile within the industry and its broader environment.

· Conduct Stakeholder engagements.

· Represent them in various stakeholder functions and forums.

· Monitor trends and identify challenges regarding the image and reputation of the industry.

· Manage membership administration Manage the Public Relations and Communications Agency.

· Expand the membership base of the representative body by approaching non-members for membership.

· Review and promote of their Code of Conduct and their Compliance reporting.

· Manage the member CEO visit programme.

3. Management of the Representative Body’s Corporate Affairs projects / events namely;

ü AGM / Cocktail Function

ü Indaba

ü CEO Roundtable

ü IUMI Conference

ü Insurance Conference Planning Committee

Key responsibilities:

· Create annual calendar of events (for the Representive Body and include industry events of interest).

· Develop and manage guest list, special guests / speakers.

· Ensure all event apparel is available and in keeping with the organisation’s image.

· Ensure stakeholder distribution lists are updated.

4. Internal Communications

  • To design, implement, manage and review all channels through which information can easily be disseminated internally to staff.
  • Design and create internal material to promote the organisation's image and identity (banners, brochures, folders and other markating collateral)
  • Deal with copyrights aspects of utilizing written articles

5. External Communications

· Develop and proactively implement an external communications strategy to strengthen this crucial priority, in order to inform correct perceptions of the industry. This should roll out through informed content being initiated, developed and implemented by the Corporate Affairs Manager.

· Proactively and regularly write, source, finalise and distribute media releases and other information regarding the Representive Bodyand the industry.

· Write all relevant material on behalf of the Representative Body in alignment with theirpolicies and procedures.

· Promote the image and reputation of the Representative Bodythrough writing positively about the association and disseminating it to the media.

· Respond to media queries from journalists and editors.

· Manage and oversee the public relations functions including publications, media conferences and other stakeholder and communication events.

· Manage the Representative Body’s website and all their social media.

· The website and social media

o Liaise with key area managers regarding their content on the website. Ensure that content is updated and proof-read. Incorporate process into the regular information sharing initiative engagements.

o Update the Facebook Fan Page regularly, directly and through sourcing the correct information.

o Update Twitter with relevant tweets, directly and through sourcing the correct information.

o Update their LinkedIn Fan page.

o Liaise with key area managers for their input in specialist areas.

o Liaise with members regarding their involvement and the benefit to the industry in their participation on the Representative Body’s social media platforms.

Media Relations

· Create and manage relations between the Representative Body and the media. These include magazines, newspapers, radio, digital and TV houses, with particular emphasis on the industry media, financial and consumer journalists.

· Visit and meet journalists and editors of various financial publications on a monthly basis.

· Print Media

o Elevate the profile of the Representative Body Leadership/ Identified persons in the print media industry.

· Media Queries

o Liaise with media regarding their request for input and appropriately redirect these queries to the specialist within the Representative Body.

o Identify industry trends and conduct research liaising with members on a high level where necessary (including obtaining financial information). This information should be used to prepare an information pack for the specialist within the Representative Body to be sufficiently briefed to manage the query.

o Prepare a schedule for regular information sharing initiative engagements and Media Visits.

o Research all press release matters with industry and internal specialists. Work closely with the PR agency on this one.

Representative Body’s Publications:

· Actively use their publications to build and enhance the profile of the industry, the Representative Body, and its spokespersons.

· Initiate, develop, write, collate, edit and produce the Annual Review.

· Initiate, develop, write, collate, edit and produce the monthly Bulletin.

· Initiate, develop, write, collate, edit and produce the Staff Internal Newsletter.

· Initiate, develop, write, collate, edit and produce their Daily Digest (E-notice board).

6. General Departmental Management:

· Budgeting

· Performance and staff management

· Reporting to the Representative Body’s Internal Exco

· Day to day administration controls

Di Direct Reports - Communications Administrator & Data Intelligence Specialist / External - Public Relations and Communications Agency

Key Internal Relations - Chief Executive Officer, General Managers, Managers and Staff

Key External Relations - Members, Government Departments, Business Organisations, Professional Associations, other relevant stakeholders identified as and when necessary / Web Developers / Print and electronic media Journalists (including radio, television and online), editors and other relevant stakeholders / Industry media / Financial media and Consumer media.

§ Appropriate Degree (preferred study-Journalism, Communications)

§ Financial sector experience (minimum five years)

§ Management Experience

§ Proven track record in the field of Corporate Affairs, Stakeholder Management, Communications

§ Excellent Command of the English language and business writing (non-negotiable)
