Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our client's dynamic team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the profitability and efficiency of projects across various sectors, with a particular focus on municipal maintenance, pipeline construction, and related services.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimations for projects, considering materials, labour, and equipment requirements.
  • Prepare accurate bill of quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates for tender submissions and project budgets.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle, identifying potential cost overruns or savings opportunities.
  • Review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitiveness and value for money.
  • Track variations and change orders, assessing their impact on project budgets and timelines.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of tender documents, contracts, and procurement strategies.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Provide contractual advice and support to project teams, resolving disputes and claims as necessary.
  • Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities associated with projects, proposing mitigation strategies where necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements affecting project costs and delivery.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on project costs, variations, and financial performance.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, correspondence, and change orders.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation and information as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in quantity surveying and cost estimation, with a focus on infrastructure projects.
  • Professional registration with a recognized industry body (e.g., RICS, SACQSP) preferred.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously, from tender stage through to final account.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, including MS Excel, CostX, and industry-specific estimating tools.
