Our client, an export trading business is looking to hire a Financial Manager , based in Durban

Duties and Responsibilities :

Financial Strategy and Planning:


  • Develop and implement the organization's financial strategy and long-term financial planning
  • Provide financial insights and guidance to the executive team and the board of directors
  • Assess the financial health of the organization and recommend actions for improvement
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the companies objectives

Financial Reporting:


  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports to internal and external stakeholders

Budgeting and Forecasting:


  • Manage the budgeting process, working with department heads to set financial targets and monitor performance against budgets
  • Create financial forecasts and scenarios to support decision-making and resource allocation

Cash Flow Management:


  • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization's liquidity needs are met
  • Implement effective cash management strategies, including optimizing working capital

Risk Management:


  • Identify and assess financial risks, such as market volatility, credit risk, and operational risk.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the organization from financial threats

Investment and Capital Management:


  • Evaluate investment opportunities and capital allocation decisions
  • Optimize the organization's capital structure and manage debt and equity financing

Tax Planning and Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and minimize tax liabilities
  • Work with tax professionals to develop tax-efficient strategies

Financial Controls and Policies:


  • Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls to safeguard the organization's assets
  • Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures

Financial Analysis:


  • Conduct financial analysis, including cost-benefit analysis and financial modelling, to support strategic decision-making

Relationship Management:


  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as auditors, regulators, investors, and financial institutions
  • Build and maintain relationships with key financial partners

Team Leadership:


  • Manage and mentor the finance team
  • Provide leadership and direction to the finance department

Compliance and Legal Matters:


  • Ensure compliance with all financial and legal requirements, including regulatory filings and reporting

Technology and Systems:


  • Implement and oversee financial management systems and technology to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's degree or professional certification is a plus)
  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably in an export or international trade environment
  • Strong understanding of international trade and foreign exchange
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good experience in managing a finance team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the Syspro accounting package is essential
