Description:

New position is available for a Powertrain Engineer for our client in the Automotive Industry based in Kariega. To ensure the Group's products are engineered to African regional requirements by designing, developing, testing and introducing locally manufactured components, by adapting and developing sourced designs to be compatible with African regional environmental conditions and by issuing technical data in line with the correct component engineering level to meet the following criteria:
  • Group Africa products are built problem free.
  • Regional requirements in terms of local content and technical support are met.
  • Innovative and unique product feature development.
  • Safety and reliability in service.
  • Discontinued models but still required in Africa.
  • Adhering to the required Product Emergence Process (PEP) manual.
Duties:
  • Specify and assess technical content in Powertrain and automotive Heating-Ventilation-Air-conditioning (HVAC) components and systems.
  • Conduct technical and financial evaluations of/for development projects.
  • Specify, test and release Powertrain/HVAC components and systems to ensure adherence to Group and legal requirements.
  • Create and track development and release timing plans; prepare development and release reports.
  • Evaluate and implement the Group’s design changes and Change Requests.
  • Maintain Technical Data Systems for Powertrain/HVAC components.
  • Support Production, Logistics, Warranty and Quality and assist with special investigations.
  • Apply sound knowledge of internal combustion engines (including their subcomponents and functionality) vehicle cooling systems, intake and exhaust systems, refrigerant lines and HVAC components & ducting.
  • Apply sound knowledge of these systems (AVON, KVS, CONNECT, KPM, FAM, etc.) and MS Office Suite.
  • Communication with relevant suppliers throughout the development phase and the development of the relevant suppliers.
  • Communication with relevant Group counterparts for projects.
Requirements:
  • BSc/BTech/B Eng in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years relative experience in the field.
  • Knowledge of modern Powertrain/HVAC vehicle components and systems.
  • Knowledge of modern automotive production methods.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Understanding of basic financial principles.
  • Self-motivation, good time management, report writing and presentation ability.
