Technical Manager (Soft Citrus)

Description:

Our client, a global company operating in the fruit industry with their office situated in Paarl, is looking for a Technical Manager with experience in the citrus industry to join their team. The role will be based on the 360 ha farm in Piketberg, Western Cape.

The successful candidate will report to the General Manager and be focused on the technical aspects of farming in order to develop and promote better farm practices to increase production yield and enhance farming sustainability.

This role will be responsible for soil management, ‘fertigation’ activities, chemical management, people development, and technical-activity monitoring. Duties will include: *fertigation- and chemical spray annual and ad hoc plans *phytosanitary, irrigation, fertilizer, nutrition and stimulation instructions *pest monitoring *production monitoring *sustainability programs: cover crops (plastics, mulching, zero herbicide), integrated pest management, soil microbiology, organic fertilizer testing *budget preparation and validation *recordkeeping *data management *geographical information management *people management *all other tasks related to the role.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
• Relevant B.Agric/BScAgric qualification (Entomology as focus area advantageous);
• 8 years’ experience in primary farming, of which at least 2 years in a senior position;
• Knowledge of soft citrus, especially Orri, Tango, Nadorcott and lemons;
• Fully bilingual (Afrikaans & English);
• Valid driver’s license;
• Willingness to travel abroad (EMEA) 2-3 times a year.

Housing on the farm is included in a competitive remuneration package.
