RESPONSIBILITIES:
MANAGING OPERATIONAL STAFF BY:
- Recruiting, selecting, orientating and training staff
- Maintaining a safe and secure working environment
- Ensuring legislative compliance in terms of Basic Conditions of Employment, Labour Relations, Employment Equity, Skills Development and safety, welfare and health
- Communicating job expectations and managing performance
- Coaching, counseling, disciplining and handling grievances
- Administering staff matters, includes preparing and authorizing overtime schedules, preparing staff leave schedules, absenteeism and other HR Management / document requirements
MAINTAINING OPERATIONS SERVICE AND QUALITY STANDARDS BY:
- Monitoring inbound and outbound freight departures, collections, deliveries and arrivals
- Ensuring timeous departure of all line haul vehicles
- Verifying freight handling and the application of collection and dispatch procedures
- Drafting operational procedures
- Verifying data capturing procedures and processes
- Taking corrective action in terms of problems identified
- Monitoring and ensuring: on time delivery, actioning missed collections, data capturing errors are identified and corrected, productivity levels (collections, deliveries) by route / driver / collections clerk are maximized, effective POD capturing, 3rd party agent delivery and collection is undertaken
- Administering / monitoring operations expenses including fuel consumption, vehicle service and mileage records, traffic violation fines, cargo and accident claims, freight discrepancies, etc.
- Handling inter-branch and customer queries / requirements by investigating, proposing solutions and taking corrective action
- Maintaining operations assets including scanners, checking warehouse equipment and ensuring vehicle maintenance (repair and tyre requirements) also orders and maintains tyre repair stock
- Checking vehicle presentation, analyzing vehicle abuse and driver behavior & taking corrective action
- Ensuring warehouse housekeeping is maintained
Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (Matric) minimum
- Diploma In Road Transportation – or working towards such
- 5/8 Years transport or freight operational experience, including 3 years in supervisory capacity
- Knowledge of road transportation in SA
- Basic understanding of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Legislation (BCOE Act)
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Skills Development and Employment Equity Act
- In depth understanding of freight operational processes Geographic understanding of area of operation and a detailed understanding of Transport ordinances and loading requirements
- Managerial and interactive skills
- Code 08 Drivers License
- English Language fluency
- Willingness to consistently work long hours including weekends and be available for call outs
- In depth understanding of freight processes
- Good time management – meeting specific deadlines
- Attention to detail at all times – accuracy
- Self-motivated
- Ability to motivate staff
- Presentable and of a professional manner at all times
- Reliable
- Excellent communication skills
- Own reliable transport to and from work
