Senior Technical Officer (Grade 10)

The Department of Zoology and Entomology invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team.

Main Objectives

To ensure that the departmental furniture, research equipment, vehicles and boats are kept in good working order; to manufacture custom equipment for special purposes, in order to ensure the smooth running of all departmental teaching and research endeavours and to manage building facilities, in order to ensure that basic services (water, electricity, air, gas, etc.) are maintained.

The Requirements
Grade 12 or a National Certificate N4/N5/N6, preferably in Building Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, Relevant trade test, plus approximately 3 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes:

  • At least 1 year’s supervision experience or be in possession of a supervision certificate.
  • Previous experience in a workshop where welding, fitting and turning were part of the key responsibilities.
  • Previous experience and or proven ability in technical design will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience and/or proven ability in vehicle maintenance.
  • Previous experience and/or proven ability in electronics.
  • Previous experience in health and safety will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in woodwork.
  • Must be in possession of a valid code 08 driver’s license for at least a minimum of two years.

Remuneration per annum (Grade 10):

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R304,673.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R418,532.00
