Description:

The incumbent will be responsible for carrying out final product, semi-routine and non-routine analyses requiring accuracy, precision, analytical skill and advanced chemical knowledge. Will also be responsible for analysis of the routine samples for the mine where results are required on a regular basis for the control of plant processes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out the analysis of routine and non-routine samples from plants.
  • Coordinating and controlling all the sections of the Laboratory, which operate continuously.
  • Coordinating activities of shift staff when required.
  • Using analytical techniques and instrumentation, such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), High Thermal Combustions Instruments (LECO), Titrino for wet chemistry, manual titrations, Davies Tube, Electrolytic Plating techniques and other instruments as required.
  • Calibrating instruments such as stated above to ensure quality of results produced.
  • Calibration and operation of Spark -OES, ICP and other lab equipment.
  • Standardising and operating all analytical instruments.
  • Operating the Laboratory Information System (LIMS) to ensure accurate entry of results and timely capture of samples.
  • Preparing quality control standards.
  • Ensuring high level of process capability based on QC samples and SPC charts.
  • Be prepared to act as a Shift Chemist.
  • Basic understanding of ISO 17025 requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry / Degree with Chemistry as Major subject preferred.
  • Relevant experience within the Chemical Laboratory activities.
  • Computer literacy (efficient in MS Word and Excel).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Analytical Laboratory Environment –Wet Chemistry Techniques and Analytical Chemistry Instruments.
