Job Description:

Position Overview: As a Relief Camp Manager at our prestigious 5-star game lodge in Welgevonden, your primary responsibility is to ensure the seamless operation of the lodge in the absence of the Camp Manager. You will uphold the highest standards of hospitality, guest satisfaction, and conservation while managing the daily operations of the lodge.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Guest Experience:

    • Ensure an exceptional guest experience by overseeing all aspects of hospitality, including accommodations, dining, and activities.
    • Respond promptly and professionally to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns to ensure their comfort and satisfaction.
    • Coordinate with the lodge staff to maintain cleanliness, organization, and ambiance throughout the property.
  2. Team Management:

    • Provide leadership and guidance to the lodge staff, including guides, housekeeping, kitchen, and maintenance teams.
    • Conduct regular staff meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations to maintain high standards of service.
    • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, communication, and professional growth among staff members.
  3. Operational Efficiency:

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lodge, including check-in/check-out procedures, meal service, activity scheduling, and guest transportation.
    • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with relevant departments to ensure adequate supplies of food, beverages, linens, and other necessities.
    • Implement cost-effective measures to optimize resource utilization and maximize profitability while maintaining quality standards.
  4. Conservation and Sustainability:

    • Promote environmental conservation and sustainable practices within the lodge and its surroundings.
    • Educate staff and guests about local wildlife, ecosystem dynamics, and conservation initiatives.
    • Collaborate with conservation organizations and local communities to support wildlife protection and community development projects.
  5. Health and Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations to safeguard the well-being of guests and staff.
    • Conduct regular inspections of the lodge facilities and equipment to identify potential hazards and address maintenance issues promptly.
    • Develop and implement emergency procedures and contingency plans to address unforeseen events or crises effectively.

  • Lodges: 2 to 3 years
  • Camp Manager: 1 to 2 years
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or related field prefferable.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a luxury lodge or resort setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of staff members.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of wildlife conservation principles and practices is desirable.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and sanitation regulations applicable to hospitality operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software applications, including reservation systems and Microsoft Office suite.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or related field prefferable.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a luxury lodge or resort setting.
