Mechanical Fitter

Description:

Our esteemed client is pursuing a skilled and dedicated individual to fill the critical position of Mechanical Fitter. The primary responsibility will be to ensure that all tasks are completed within specified timeframes and in strict accordance with the Company's Quality Assurance (QA) Systems and Standards. This involves applying your extensive knowledge and experience in pumps and gearboxes, meticulously adhering to established procedures and protocols to maintain the highest level of quality in the work performed.

Key Responsibilities:

• General fitting including the overhaul of:
  • Gear reduction units of all size and type, Fluid Couplings and Power Transmission Devices.
  • Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, such as Warman slurry pumps, Submersible pumps, multi-stage pumps, Vacuum pumps, Roto-jets, Large split case pumps, Boiler Feed Pumps, Pump Rotating Assemblies and other Critical Process Pumps.
  • Conveying, Crushing and Stockpiling / Reclaiming Equipment.
  • Large Mechanical components of Drag Lines and Underground Mining Equipment.
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems.
• Inspect, analysis and record critical mechanical information during the process of undertaking mechanical refurbishment work; this critical information would include the interpretations of wear and tear, mechanical damage to Gears, Shafts, Housing etc. recording of end floats, preloads, gear train backlashes, tooth contacts and other items, at the start and completion of every refurbishment.
• Sketch and accurately measure mechanical components from Gearboxes, Pumps, and other Drive Equipment.
• General machining including use of: Large and Small Centre Lathes, Milling Machines, Radial Drills, Horizontal Boring Machines.
• Perform mechanical repairs, manufacture components and other duties as directed by the mechanical supervisor.
• Ensure that work is performed as per Job Cards or ITP’s and current schedule of works. Both in a timely and safe manner.
• Ensure all work is carried out to quality and specification requirements and that documentation is completed on time.
• Assist in fostering a harmonious environment, team building and training of apprentices and other employees as required.
• Adherence to Company procedures.
• Safety and Environment:
• Take all practical steps to conduct activities in a responsible manner within the framework of Company’s Health and Safety Policy and procedures.
• Report asll near misses, incidents, and accidents; directly impacting to your person, to Company Management using the appropriate documentation.
• Take all practical steps to actively contribute to reducing Company Environmental Impact.

• Must have more than Five (5) years of practical experience in a similar role within a heavy machinery or industrial environment. Specifically pump and gearbox knowledge and experience.
• Strong attention to detail in completing documentation, including accurate and timely completion.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, coordinating tasks and contributing to a harmonious workplace.
• Proven commitment to conducting activities responsibly in line with health and safety policies and procedures.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform mechanical repairs and manufacture components as directed by the mechanical supervisor.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and tasks as needed.
• Ability to learn quickly.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing problems that arise in a service workshop environment.

Key Requirements:
