Job summary: A Johannesburg-based media agency is seeking a talented WordPress/HTML developer to join our web development team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in WordPress, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and a passion for creating visually appealing and highly functional websites. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining our websites, ensuring they are responsive, user-friendly, and optimised for performance. Please note this is not a remote position.Responsibilities:WordPress developmentCreate, customise, and maintain WordPress themes and plugins.Implement and configure WordPress content management systems.Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing WordPress websites.Keep up-to-date with the latest WordPress developments and best practices.Front-end developmentWrite clean, efficient HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code to ensure responsive and visually appealing websites.Optimise websites for cross-browser compatibility and mobile responsiveness.Collaborate with designers to bring their concepts to life and ensure a seamless user experience.Website maintenanceRegularly update and maintain existing websites, ensuring security, functionality, and performance.Monitor website uptime and performance, and address any issues promptly.Implement backups and disaster recovery plans.SEO integrationImplement on-page SEO best practices to optimise website content for search engines.Monitor and improve website performance in search engine rankings.Technical supportProvide technical support to clients and internal teams on WordPress and HTML-related issues.Diagnose and resolve website problems, bugs, and performance issues.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in computer science, web development, or a related field (preferred).Proven experience as a WordPress/HTML developer or a similar role.Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.Strong knowledge of WordPress, including theme and plugin development.Familiarity with responsive design and mobile development.Understanding of SEO best practices.Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve technical issues.Excellent communication and teamwork skills are a necessity.Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment.Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.Additional skills (preferred, but not required):Experience with PHP programming.Knowledge of web design tools and graphics software.Familiarity with web accessibility standards.Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git).
