Specific duties : 1. Observe the established policies and procedures relating to quality management. 2. Primarily responsible for the reviewing and inspection of raw materials, instruments, and manufactured goods over several departments including the turning sections, CNC, fabrication, goods receiving and fabrication as well as final check / release, during setup, in production and final approval. 3. Conduct First Off (“F/O”) Inspections after machine set ups, and make a final go/no-go decision as to whether to commence with production. Confirm that the customer requirements and specifications are met prior to the commencement of production by comparing F/O samples with drawings and stated requirements. Prepare slip / slide gauges and other required gauges and communicate use of gauges to operators and setters. Ensure that correct material is used as per specification and place relevant samples and gauges at the machine. 4. Conduct in-process routine and ad hoc inspections in assigned areas by visually inspecting products and measuring products with measurement instruments including, but not limited to verniers, micrometers, clock gauges and thread gauges. Where appropriate compare with customer samples and issued equipment. Ensure that inspections are done at the commencement of each shift and that verification samples are provided for inspection by management. 5. When, variances, deviations from specifications, discrepancies, and non-conformances are encountered: the Inspector must stop production and ensure that parts in the machine are segregated for further inspection. The inspector must be able to identify the required adjustments and changes and communicate the required changes to the setter. 6. Inspect final products prior to release and make a final decision approval decision if products comply with the customer specification. Conduct visual and measurement inspections and determine the correct inspection sample. Take responsibility for the final release if product complies with the specifications. Inspect and release outsourced products prior to dispatch. Approve final products by confirming specifications. 7. Ensure that the quality control reports and documentation are properly completed and up to date as required by the quality management system. 8. Safeguard and use measurement equipment correctly. SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Matric with mathematical pass rate essential. Technical knowledge (N3 or higher) advantageous. Background in mechanical engineering (work experience) and diploma will be advantageous.
